As part of last year’s recycling scheme we collected 235,000 old mobiles - and donated £948,400 to charity. Most of the money went to the National Autistic Society, who received £888,400 as our nominated charity for 2006/07.
This year our recycling scheme is helping reduce CO2. We’ve teamed up with the Global Cool Foundation - their mission is to save a billion tonnes of carbon dioxide.
To help reduce CO2, we’re asking our customers to recycle their old mobile phones. Our aim is to collect 500,000 phones, which is a lot, but we know there are millions out there just gathering dust.
For every old mobile we collect for recycling we’ll donate up to £10 all the proceeds to the Global Cool campaign. And all the money raised will go towards planet saving projects like Solar Aid and The Million Superheroes Campaign.
If everyone in the UK delayed upgrading their mobile by 12 months, it would save as much CO2 as taking 213,000 cars off the road for a year.
To encourage customers to hang on to their phones for longer, we offer special SIM-only tariffs and free airtime credit. Tempted by these incentives, 20% of existing customers chose not to upgrade their handset when they renewed their contract last year. How Cool is that?
All you have to do is dig out your old mobiles, chargers and accessories and drop them into a recycling bin at your local Vodafone store.
Or you can send them in an old jiffy bag to FREEPOST, Foneback Vodafone Recycling.
Make the most of now…
