Internet access abroad
Simple rates - pay by the day
From 1 July 2009 you’ll find it easier to keep track of costs when you access the internet abroad.
In most countries you’ll pay by the day to browse the web, check your inbox and send email. How much you pay will depend on:
- the country you’re visiting
- how you access the internet - on your phone or laptop
- how much data (MBs) you use when you’re online.

On your phone if you just want to check a couple of emails in Europe the first MB is charged up to £4.99 in 1KB steps and then the next 24MB are free. In the rest of the world the first 3MB are charged up to £14.99 in 1KB steps with the next 22MB free.

How many MBs will I use?
To help you keep track of how much data you are using abroad:
On Mobile Broadband 50MB is approximately 100 Emails & 4 Hours browsing
On your Handset 25MB is approximately 500 mobile friendly web pages
Important
Our rates to access the internet abroad are for browsing and sending email – not for downloading music and movies, streaming TV programmes or peer to peer file sharing, which all use a lot more than 50MB of data.
Already got a data roaming pack?
If you’ve added a pack to your price plan, you’ll carry on paying the same rates to access the internet abroad.
