Text messaging

Keeping it short and sweet

From making arrangements to good old-fashioned flirting, or for just saying hello, Vodafone text messaging is a fast, convenient way to keep in touch. You simply create short written messages on your mobile phone and send them directly to other mobiles.

How do I get it?

Every new Vodafone mobile phone is already set up to use text messaging - you'll find full instructions in the user guide for your phone.

What does it cost?

Receiving standard text messages from other mobiles is completely free. Sending text messages is charged according to your price plan. Some price plans have inclusive text messages built in and they can also be as little as 3p (inc. VAT) when you buy a text or extras pack. Otherwise standard messages are a maximum of 12p each (inc. VAT) in the UK on most Vodafone price plans.

Sending text messages from the UK to an international mobile number costs 24p per message (inc. VAT). Receiving messages from abroad is free if you are in the UK, however some international networks may charge you to receive text messages while you're abroad.

Picture messaging

A picture paints a thousand words

Whether you're out on the town or sitting on the beach, some moments just need to be shared. With Vodafone picture messaging, you can take a photo, add text or sound, and send it from your mobile phone, right there and then.

Picture messaging is just like texting, only more fun.

  • Create your message by taking a photo or downloading a picture
  • Record or download sounds to add to your message
  • Create long text messages of at least 500 characters
  • Download images from Vodafone live! studio

How do I get it?

Before you can start picture messaging, you may need to configure your Vodafone live! phone.

What does it cost?

Sending a picture message to a UK or international number costs 36p. There's no charge for receiving a picture message, unless you're abroad, in which case you'll be charged a small data charge for the download of the message (price will vary depending on the size of the message).

The online alternative

If your friends don't have a picture messaging phone, you can still send them a picture message. They'll receive a text message asking them to go to a web address where they'll be able to enjoy your message online. All they need is a PC or a PDA with internet access, or a WAP phone.

Alternatively, you can send your picture message direct to their email address.

Video messaging

Share the full experience

If you're having fun and want your mates to know what they're missing, don't just send a text or picture message - record a video clip and share the full experience, sound and all.

You can record up to 30 seconds of video on your phone and then send it as part of a message to any mobile or email address.

How can my friends view video messages on a normal phone?

If your friends have a phone that doesn't have video messaging, they'll receive your video message as a series of still pictures.

Once the pictures have been sent, they'll receive a text asking them to go to Vodafone live! Studio to view the original video message you sent. Using a PC or PDA with internet access they can then watch your message on the web.

How do I get it?

To send a message, you'll need a video messaging phone, which you'll have to configure the first time you use it.

You don't have to have a video messaging phone to receive a video message. Video messages sent to normal phones can be viewed by going to Vodafone live! Studio.

What does it cost?

Sending a video message to a UK or international number costs 60p. There's no charge for receiving a video message, unless you're abroad, in which case you'll be charged a small data charge for the download of the message (price will vary depending on the size of the message).

  • Reply or forward a message for free
  • View large images at their original size

How do I use Get my photo?

All you need to do then is:

All messages sent to Get my photo are stored for 30 days. After 30 days, message will be deleted.

What does it cost?

Get my photo is a free service that lets Vodafone customers view their picture or video messages online. What's more, for every picture or video message you receive, you can reply or forward your own message for free too.
